ZEC Hits an All-Time High as Grayscale’s Zcash ETF Prepares for a 3-for-1 Split

Zcash is having a major moment, with ZEC climbing above $1,500 and Grayscale preparing to split its Zcash ETF into three shares for every one currently held.

ZEC reached an intraday high of about $1,521, marking what multiple market reports describe as a new effective all-time high for the privacy-focused cryptocurrency. The move comes as investor interest in Grayscale’s Zcash ETF, ZCSH, continues to grow.

ZCSH Is Getting a 3-for-1 Split

Grayscale announced on September 18 that ZCSH will undergo a 3-for-1 forward share split.

Investors who hold ZCSH at the close of trading on September 28 will receive two additional shares for every share they own. The additional shares are scheduled to be distributed after market close on September 29, with split-adjusted trading expected to begin on September 30.

The split does not increase the value of an investor's position.

For example, someone holding 10 shares worth $300 each would have 30 shares worth approximately $100 each after the split. The total would remain $3,000.

Grayscale says the purpose is to reduce the price per share while proportionally increasing the number of shares outstanding.

Why Is Zcash Rising?

Zcash is a privacy-focused cryptocurrency that allows users to make transactions with enhanced privacy through zero-knowledge cryptography.

Its recent rally has coincided with growing demand for exposure to privacy-focused digital assets and strong activity around ZCSH.

The ETF launched on August 25 and has attracted more than $233 million in cumulative inflows, while its net assets reached roughly $890 million by September 17. Its cumulative trading volume also surpassed $11 billion, according to reporting from The Block.

The Zcash network itself is also seeing increased mining activity. The Block reported that estimated network solrate climbed from roughly 25 GSol/s in late August to nearly 32 GSol/s, while mining difficulty reached a record level.

What the ETF Split Means for Investors

The lower post-split share price could make individual ZCSH shares more accessible to investors who cannot or do not want to purchase fractional ETF shares.

But the split itself isn't a bullish event in the mathematical sense.

Investors aren't receiving additional economic value. They are simply receiving three smaller pieces instead of one larger piece.

The bigger development is the demand behind the fund and the underlying ZEC rally.

If ZEC continues attracting capital, the ETF could remain an important way for traditional brokerage investors to gain exposure to the asset without directly holding ZEC.

At the same time, investors should remember that a rapid rise in an asset can also bring significant volatility. The ETF split changes the number and price of shares, not the underlying investment risk.

For Zcash, the bigger story is whether the recent surge represents a lasting increase in demand for privacy-focused digital assets or a market cycle that could reverse just as quickly.
