NASA's Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope has reached one of its final milestones before launch: the observatory has been sealed inside the protective payload fairing of a SpaceX Falcon Heavy. NASA and SpaceX are targeting August 30, 2026 , for liftoff from Launch Complex 39A in Florida. But Roman isn't simply another telescope heading into orbit. A telescope built to see the universe differently Roman is designed to survey enormous areas of the sky while investigating some of astronomy's biggest unanswered questions — including dark energy, dark matter, the formation of galaxies and planets beyond our solar system . Its Wide Field Instrument will give scientists an exceptionally broad view of the cosmos.
