Google just avoided one of the biggest threats to its advertising empire. On September 2, a U.S. federal judge rejected the Department of Justice's request to force Google to sell AdX , its advertising exchange, despite previously finding that Google illegally monopolized parts of the digital advertising market. Instead of breaking up the business, the court imposed behavioral remedies designed to make Google's advertising infrastructure more accessible to competitors. Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery Merger Temporarily Blocked by U.S. Judge

One of the biggest media mergers in recent years has been put on hold. A U.S. federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order that pauses Paramount's proposed merger with Warner Bros. Discovery for at least 14 days while the court reviews legal challenges against the deal. The lawsuit was filed by a coalition of 12 U.S. states, led by California. They argue that combining the two media giants could reduce competition and give the merged company too much control over the entertainment industry. If the merger goes ahead, some of the world's biggest entertainment brands would come under one company, including Warner Bros., HBO, CNN, DC Studios, Paramount Pictures, CBS, Paramount+, and HBO Max. State officials say the merger could lead to fewer choices for consumers, weaker competition, and higher prices over time. Paramount, however, disagrees.
