PayPal Was Once Worth $280 Billion. Now Stripe Wants to Buy It.

Image
PayPal once looked almost untouchable. In 2021, the payments giant was worth more than $280 billion . Now, one of the world's biggest private fintech companies is discussing buying it. Stripe and private-equity firm Advent International are in talks to acquire PayPal , according to people familiar with the situation. But there is a catch. The first offer wasn't good enough for PayPal. The $53 Billion Offer In July, Stripe and Advent reportedly offered $60.50 per PayPal share . That valued PayPal at roughly $53 billion . PayPal considered the offer too low. The two sides have continued negotiating over a potentially higher price, but there is no deal yet and no guarantee one will happen . PayPal shares closed at about $61.66 on Friday, giving the company a market value of roughly $54 billion . Think about that difference. A company that was once worth more than $280 billion is now being discussed in a deal worth around $53 billion. That's an enormous fall. ...

Zuckerberg Thinks AI Will Create More Opportunity. Here’s Why That Matters.

Image
For years, one of the biggest fears around AI has been simple: AI will take our jobs. Mark Zuckerberg is looking at the future differently. In a new essay, the Meta CEO argues that increasingly powerful AI could give individuals and small teams capabilities that previously belonged mostly to large companies. He describes a future where people have personal AI systems that can help them learn, create, build businesses and solve difficult problems. That idea deserves more attention than the usual “AI will replace workers” debate. Because there is another possibility. AI could change who gets to build. The Small Team Could Become Extremely Powerful Think about what it takes to build a company today. You might need: A developer A designer A researcher A marketer Customer support An analyst An accountant A small startup can spend years and millions of dollars building this team. But AI can already perform parts of many of these jobs. A founder can use AI to resea...

If Social Media Disappeared Tomorrow, What Would Actually Happen?

Image
Tomorrow morning, you wake up and reach for your phone. Instagram doesn't load. TikTok is gone. YouTube won't open. X has disappeared. LinkedIn is offline. At first, you assume it's your internet connection. Then you realise something much bigger has happened. Social media no longer exists. It sounds like science fiction, but that's exactly the question explored in a recent episode of the REAVYVE Podcast , where host Fiyin John-Taiwo sat down with Sunday Silvanus to discuss what society would actually look like if every major social platform disappeared overnight. The conversation uncovered something surprising. The biggest losses wouldn't necessarily be personal. The First Casualty Would Be Business When people think about social media disappearing, they often think about losing entertainment. Businesses would feel the impact first. As Fiyin John-Taiwo pointed out during the discussion, much of today's business world depends on social me...

TikTok Says You Should Micromanage Your Micromanager. Experts Disagree

Image
Millions of people are turning to TikTok for advice on dealing with difficult bosses. Videos using the #micromanager hashtag have now attracted more than 230 million views , with many employees sharing their experiences and tips for handling managers who closely monitor every task. One piece of advice has become especially popular. Instead of putting up with a micromanaging boss, some TikTok users suggest micromanaging them back . The idea is simple. Send updates every 30 minutes. Ask questions you already know the answers to. Email summaries after every small meeting. The goal is to make the manager experience the same level of pressure they put on their employees. But workplace experts say this approach is more likely to create new problems than solve existing ones. Leadership expert Henna Pryor says trying to out-control a controlling manager usually increases tension instead of building trust. Rather than proving a point, it can make the working relationship even more d...

The Makers, the Watchers, and the Confused: Which One Are You?

Image
Take a look around. Every day, people are launching businesses, creating videos, building apps, writing books, learning new skills, and chasing big dreams. At the same time, millions of others are watching them do it. And then there are those who want to start something but don't know where to begin. In many ways, most of us fall into one of three groups: the Makers, the Watchers, and the Confused. The Makers Makers are people who take action. They don't always have the best ideas or the most money. They simply start. A maker might launch a small business, upload their first YouTube video, build an app, learn a new skill, or invest their first ₦10,000. They know they won't get everything right. But they also know they'll never make progress if they don't begin. Every successful company, invention, or career started because someone decided to make something. The Watchers Watchers enjoy seeing other people succeed. They follow entrepreneurs on social...

When people think of the world's richest people, names like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, or Mark Zuckerberg often come to mind. But there is another billionaire who built one of the biggest business empires in history. His name is Bernard Arnault . Instead of creating social media platforms or electric cars, Arnault built his fortune by owning some of the world's most famous luxury brands. Today, his company, LVMH , owns more than 70 luxury brands and has become the largest luxury goods company in the world. He Didn't Start in Fashion Bernard Arnault was born in France in 1949. After studying engineering, he joined his father's construction business. For several years, he worked in the family company. But Arnault believed there was a bigger opportunity outside construction. He saw potential in luxury brands that many people overlooked. That decision changed his life. His First Big Move Arnault helped acquire the company that owned Christian Dior , one of the w...

Why Do Some Companies Never Pay Dividends?

Image
Some of the world's biggest companies make billions of dollars every year. So, many people ask the same question: If these companies are making so much money, why don't they share it with shareholders? The answer is simpler than it seems. Some companies believe they can create more value by investing their profits back into the business instead of paying them out as dividends. What Is a Dividend? A dividend is money a company pays to its shareholders. If you own shares in a company that pays dividends, you may receive cash regularly, usually every few months or once a year. For some investors, dividends provide a steady source of income while they continue to own the company's shares. Why Do Some Companies Pay Dividends? Companies that have been around for many years often pay dividends because they don't need to spend every dollar on expansion. Their businesses are already well established. Instead of keeping all their profits, they choose to reward shar...

He played for some of the biggest clubs, including Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and now Al Nassr. But he knew one day his football career would come to an end. Instead of waiting until retirement, he started building businesses while he was still playing. Building the CR7 Brand One of Ronaldo's smartest decisions was creating his own brand. Elon Musk Says Starlink Can Now Deliver 10 Gbps Internet Anywhere on Earth, But There's a Catch

Image
Imagine getting internet speeds that can download huge files in seconds, even if you're in one of the most remote places on Earth. That is exactly what Elon Musk says Starlink can now do. The SpaceX CEO recently announced that Starlink is capable of delivering reliable 10 gigabit-per-second (Gbps) upload and download speeds anywhere in the world. The announcement came after Starlink successfully demonstrated the technology in Utqiagvik, Alaska , the northernmost city in the United States. Despite being hundreds of miles above the Arctic Circle, the company said it achieved peak speeds of up to 10 Gbps with equal upload and download performance. Why This Is a Big Deal Fast internet is common in many large cities, but it is much harder to provide in remote towns, islands, deserts, mountains, and other hard-to-reach places. Building fiber-optic cables across these areas can cost millions of dollars and take years to complete. Starlink is trying to solve that problem by using...

Erling Haaland Is Doing More Than Scoring Goals. He's Building Wealth

Image
When you hear the name Erling Haaland , you probably think about football. You think about goals, speed, strength, and his incredible performances for Manchester City and Norway. But there is another side of Haaland that many people don't know. Away from football, he is quietly building wealth by investing his money instead of simply spending it. At just 25 years old, Haaland is already thinking about life after football. And that is something everyone can learn from. He Doesn't Keep All His Money in the Bank Many footballers become rich, but not all of them stay rich. Some spend millions on expensive cars, jewellery, and luxury holidays. Haaland enjoys a good life too, but he also puts his money into things that can become more valuable over time. This is called investing. Instead of letting his money sit in the bank, he makes it work for him. His Latest Investment Is in Chess One of Haaland's newest investments surprised many people. Earlier this year, he...

When Clients Dump Ship

Image
One minute a company looks unstoppable. Next minute? Clients are RUNNING for the exits like somebody pulled the fire alarm 😭 That’s one of the scariest things in business. Because companies don’t usually die instantly. First… people quietly stop trusting them. And once trust starts collapsing? Things get ugly FAST. It Starts Small 👀 One bad headline. One delayed payment. One weird rumor online. One product issue. One “uhh… something feels off here.” That’s all it sometimes takes. Clients start watching closely. Then somebody leaves. Then another. Then everybody suddenly starts asking: “Wait… should WE leave too?” 💀 Panic Is Contagious 😳 Humans copy humans. Especially when money is involved. Once customers see other customers leaving… their survival instincts kick in HARD. Nobody wants to be: the last investor, the last customer, the last person trapped inside a collapsing company. So people rush out EARLY. Even if the company isn’t fully dead ...
