Hunter Biden Is Launching a Meme Coin Called LAPTOP

A political meme coin war is getting a new contenderand this one is coming from Hunter Biden.

Hunter Biden has announced LAPTOP, a meme coin named after the infamous laptop that became a major political story in the U.S.

The token is scheduled to launch on Base on September 9, with a total supply of 1 billion tokens.

But the most unusual part isn't the name.

It's what happens to the supply.

20% is already earmarked

Hunter Biden's project plans to distribute 20% of the total supply to two groups: people who lost money on the $TRUMP meme coin and subscribers to Biden's Substack.

That puts LAPTOP directly into the political meme-coin economy that has grown around tokens connected to U.S. political figures.

But the project has an even bigger incentive built into its tokenomics.

30% could disappear

Up to 30% of LAPTOP's remaining supply could be burned if three specific conditions are met.

First, a Democrat must win the 2028 U.S. presidential election.

Second, Bitcoin must reach a new all-time high.

Third, LAPTOP's fully diluted valuation must surpass the market capitalization of Trump's $TRUMP token.

If all three targets are reached, a large portion of the supply could be permanently removed.

That creates a very unusual connection between a meme coin, Bitcoin's price, U.S. politics and another political token.

It's more than a meme

Meme coins normally depend heavily on attention, community and speculation.

LAPTOP is adding another layer: political events become part of its tokenomics.

That could make the token especially sensitive to election news, Bitcoin's performance and the fortunes of $TRUMP.

It also shows how political meme coins are evolving.

They're no longer simply tokens built around a politician's name. Their creators can use supply, burns and incentives to turn real-world events into part of the market narrative.

Whether LAPTOP can build lasting demand is another matter.

The token will still face the same problems as other meme coins: extreme volatility, speculation and the possibility that attention disappears just as quickly as it arrives.

But one thing is already clear.

The political meme-coin race just got a lot stranger.
