Best High-Yield Savings Rates in the US — Up to 4.91%
Ethena is taking USDe beyond crypto trading.
On September 1, Ethena Pay launched its beta across 48 countries, bringing savings, payments, card spending and transfers into a single self-custodial app. Every balance is denominated in USDe, Ethena's synthetic dollar.
The United States and European Union aren't included in the initial rollout, with expansion dependent on local regulatory requirements.
Ethena Pay has three membership levels: Standard, Pro and VIP.
Standard is free and offers 5% APY on balances up to $5,000.
Pro requires either locking $2,000 worth of ENA or referring 10 users. It raises the rate to 6% APY on balances up to $15,000.
Then there's VIP.
Users can qualify by locking $10,000 in ENA or referring 50 people. VIP keeps the 6% rate but increases the eligible balance to $50,000.
Ethena Pay also comes with a payment card that pays cashback in AVAX.
Standard users receive 4% cashback, Pro users receive 4.5%, and VIP users receive 5% on general spending.
At selected partner brands, the rewards can go even higher. VIP users can receive up to 10% cashback, while Pro users can receive up to 5%.
That means VIP isn't necessarily about getting a higher headline savings rate. Pro and VIP both receive 6%.
The real advantage is how much balance qualifies for that rate and how much cashback the card can generate.
The bigger idea behind Ethena Pay is its integration with USDe.
Instead of building a traditional neobank around a bank deposit or relying on another company's stablecoin, Ethena is making its own synthetic dollar the central balance inside the app.
Users can fund the account through crypto or bank transfers, while withdrawals to bank accounts can settle in local currency. Transfers between Ethena Pay users can also be made using usernames or payment tags.
It's an attempt to make the crypto layer largely invisible to the user.
Ethena Pay isn't just another crypto wallet with a debit card.
It's an attempt to turn a synthetic dollar primarily known within DeFi into something people can save, spend and transfer in everyday life.
The initial rollout is still limited, and regulatory approval will determine how quickly the app reaches major markets such as the U.S. and EU.
But the direction is clear.
Ethena isn't just building a dollar for crypto markets anymore. It's trying to build a financial account around it.
