| TECNO's latest smart phone concept |
What if the black border around your phone simply wasn't there?
That's the idea behind TECNO's latest smartphone concept. The company has built a phone with what it calls a 0mm bezel, creating a display that appears to stretch from one edge of the device to the other.
And after seeing the phone in person, MKBHD's reaction makes one thing clear: this isn't just another concept rendered in Photoshop.
The phone actually looks unusual.
It's 6.7-inch, 144Hz display reaches almost impossibly close to the physical edge of the device. From the front, there's very little of the familiar border that has surrounded smartphone screens for years.
But there's a catch.
TECNO's solution is clever. Rather than simply extending the display over the sides, the company has redesigned how the screen and frame are positioned.
The result is a phone where the bezel virtually disappears visually. Your finger, however, can still find it.
The outer frame sits slightly above the display, meaning you can feel the edge when swiping from the side. So while the phone looks completely bezel-less, the physical boundary is still there.
That's an important distinction.
TECNO hasn't magically removed the physical limits of a smartphone. It has found a way to make those limits much harder to see.
And that could be the more interesting achievement.
There's another reminder that we're not quite living in the future yet.
The display still has a punch-hole for the selfie camera.
So this isn't a completely uninterrupted sheet of glass. TECNO has solved one of the biggest visual interruptions the bezel but the front camera remains.
Still, the concept shows where smartphone design is heading.
For years, companies focused on making phones thinner, cameras better and displays brighter. Now they're fighting over fractions of a millimeter around the screen.
Samsung has already pushed OLED bezels down to extremely small dimensions. TECNO is essentially asking: why stop there?
That's where things get interesting.
A disappearing bezel looks great. But bezels aren't completely useless.
They provide somewhere for your fingers to rest, help prevent accidental touches and create a little separation between the display and the edge of the phone.
Remove that buffer and you introduce new problems.
Cases could become trickier too. A protective case needs to protect the phone's edge without covering the very display area TECNO worked so hard to expose.
So the question isn't whether TECNO can make a phone look bezel-less. It appears it can. The real question is whether the company can make a bezel-less phone that is actually better to live with.
For now, the device remains a concept, with TECNO expected to showcase more of the technology at IFA 2026 in Berlin.
But this is exactly what makes the prototype worth watching.
The smartphone hasn't run out of ways to evolve. But Sometimes, the next big change isn't a new camera or an AI feature it's Simply Just "making something disappear."
